CONCERT
Choir performance (combined with a sound walk): Chor Choir Choeur – Siedl/Cao
Saturday 14/9, 18:30
📍Melissa Confectionery, 82 Aischylou street, Nicosia
Siedl/Cao (AT/VT) is a Vienna-based artist group who work in the field of sound art, transdisciplinary art and contemporary music. They aspire to engage a broad audience, through an inclusive approach. By encouraging participation in a choir, they aim to foster hands-on engagement with art, as they believe that understanding comes from direct experience.
The project, Chor Choir Choeur is an exploration of choir as a process-based and artistic practice that extends beyond its traditional music-making facet. It comprises a collection of new compositions by Siedl/Cao for multiple voices in specific local contexts and media combinations. These compositions are mostly verbal instructions outlining simple concepts, allowing individuals without prior knowledge of music theory or experience in music-making to participate. The overarching aim of Chor Choir Choeur is to construct an architecture that enables the natural unfolding of human expression.

Under the moniker Sourdure, Ernest Bergez (FR) works within a hybrid sound field, combining raw electronics (modular synths, feedback), acoustic instruments (violin, dotâr, voice, foot percussion), and non-musical sounds (field recording, spoken voice). As a guideline, he keeps an underlying effort to melt experiment into popular music and vice versa, taking traditional songs and dancehall themes from the French Massif Central area as the starting point for experimentation.

Mohammad Reza Mortazavi (IR) is a musician, percussionist and composer based in Germany. The diverse sound of tonbak and daf has always fascinated Mortazavi, connecting him with an understanding of music and movement that is as multifaceted as it is constantly evolving. His musical ideas transcend traditional techniques and ways of playing both instruments.
Mortazavi directs his focus exclusively on music, detached from the instrument and national-cultural narratives, in pursuit of the idea of universal music in which something human connects in a profound way.
